Helping domestic and international clients with their immigration matters
The Law Office of Alma D. Puente, APLC has the experience to help you. Our attorneys have assisted clients with a full spectrum of immigration issues, including:
01
Family Based Immigration
At the Law Office of Alma D. Puente, we assist in family reunification through family-based petitions, which allow U.S. citizens or Lawful permanent residents to petition certain family members so they can become lawful permanent residents. The process can be long and complex and is completed either in the United States or through a U.S. consulate abroad.
02
Political Asylum
Some individuals come to the United States fleeing persecution or violence in their home country. Our office has numerous years of expertise in preparing cases unique to each individual’s circumstances. Our office represents asylum seekers before the Immigration Judge and the local asylum office.
03
Removal Defense
Our firm represents individuals who are in removal proceedings, which means they are at risk of deportation. This process can be very intimidating. However, our office identifies all forms of relief available to you and guides you through this complex process by being honest and answering your questions, ensuring you are well-informed every step of the way.
We also work closely with criminal defense and post-conviction relief attorneys to assist you with any issues that may be affecting your immigration case.
04
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
Under U.S. immigration laws, a child is defined as an individual under the age of twenty-one. An unmarried child who resides in the United States may be eligible for SIJS if they can demonstrate that they have been abandoned, abused, or neglected by one or both parents.
This unique process involves both your local superior court and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
We handle SIJS petitions in the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange County, and Kern County.
05
Waivers
Many individuals are not eligible to receive their lawful permanent resident status until they obtain a waiver. Common waivers are unlawful presence waivers, crime waivers, fraud, consent to reapply after a removal order, and medical waivers.
Waivers are carefully crafted, detailed, and supported with strong evidence unique to each individual’s case. Our firm works closely with clients to ensure that their waiver applications are submitted with a strong likelihood of success.
06
Immigration Bonds
It is incredibly stressful when your family member is detained. Our firm helps you determine whether your family member is eligible to apply for a bond, which releases them from immigration detention. Our firm works closely with family members to prepare for a bond hearing. Once released, we assist individuals in litigating their cases in removal proceedings.
